We designed a dewaniya exactly how we think contemporary dewaniyas should be designed, we dubbed it the Manmade Dewaniya, it is extremely contemporary but also extremely Arab, it had a 3D-woven CNC cut walnut mashrabiyya, the door is also walnut with the same pattern carving, and the same woven pattern is used for the travertine cladding that goes around the whole dewaniya at a height of 1.2m with microcement paint above it to give it a calming feel.
The most traditional dewaniyas have carpet, so we placed an in-built custom made carpet in the middle with faceted edges, and a traditional red ornate carpet from Isfahan hanging on the wall like an artwork, there is also a walnut-clad wall with a wall-mounted sculpture by John Chamberlain, in the centre is a linear skylight that extends from the beginning of the dewaniya to the end, and hanging from it is a traditional chandelier wrapped in white fabric (Zeppelin) by FLOS. to the left are floor-seating sofas elevated from the ground with wood slabs, and the windows have woven wood mashrabiyyas.
لقد صممنا “ديوانية” وفقاً لرؤيتنا لكيفية تصميم الديوانيات المعاصرة، وأطلقنا عليها اسم “الديوانية المصنوعة يدوياً” (Manmade Dewaniya)؛ فهي تجمع بين الطابع المعاصر للغاية والهوية العربية الأصيلة. تتميز الديوانية بـ “مشربية” من خشب الجوز نُفذت بتقنية القص المحوسب (CNC) وبنمط نسجي ثلاثي الأبعاد، كما صُنع الباب أيضاً من خشب الجوز وحُفر عليه النمط ذاته. واستُخدم النمط النسجي نفسه في تكسية الجدران بحجر “الترافرتين” الذي يحيط بالديوانية بارتفاع 1.2 متر، مع طلاء “المايكروسمنت” (microcement) في الجزء العلوي لإضفاء طابع هادئ ومريح. ونظراً لأن السجاد يُعد عنصراً أساسياً في الديوانيات التقليدية، فقد وضعنا سجادة مدمجة ومصممة خصيصاً تتوسط المكان بحواف ذات زوايا هندسية، إلى جانب سجادة تقليدية حمراء مزخرفة من أصفهان معلقة على الجدار كقطعة فنية. كما يضم المكان جداراً مكسواً بخشب الجوز يحمل منحوتة جدارية للفنان جون تشامبرلين، وتتوسط السقف نافذة طولية تسمح بدخول الضوء الطبيعي وتمتد على كامل طول الديوانية، تتدلى منها ثريا تقليدية مغلفة بقماش أبيض (طراز Zeppelin) من إنتاج شركة FLOS. وعلى الجانب الأيسر، توجد أرائك مخصصة للجلوس الأرضي مرتفعة عن الأرضية بواسطة ألواح خشبية، وتتميز النوافذ بوجود مشربيات مصنوعة من الخشب المنسوج.
