Following our Mahboula bus stop project, Manmade Studio had the opportunity to contribute to another initiative exploring the future of public transportation and urban design in Kuwait.
Kuwait Commute had organized a bus stop design competition inviting architecture students to rethink one of the most familiar pieces of infrastructure in the city. A winning team of architecture students developed a new proposal for the Kuwait bus stop, and Manmade Studio joined the project as a design and construction consultant, helping the team develop their ideas toward something that could be physically realized.
The collaboration resulted in two prototype bus stops constructed directly in front of the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) Tower in Kuwait City.
For Manmade, the project represented something larger than the design of a bus shelter. Public transportation infrastructure is part of the architecture of everyday life. The places where people walk, wait, sit and move through the city deserve the same attention to functionality, materiality, comfort and detail as larger architectural projects.
As a Kuwait architecture, design and construction studio, we were proud to contribute our practical experience to a young team of designers and help bridge the gap between an architectural competition concept and a built project.
Sometimes improving a city starts with something as simple as a better place to wait for the bus.
