What was once a barren piece of land used primarily for parking cars has been transformed into a flourishing garden for the neighborhood.
Manmade Studio designed and built the garden with a simple idea: reclaim an overlooked piece of land and turn it into a place where families, children, plants and nature could thrive together.
Previously, children in the neighborhood had very few opportunities to spend time outdoors while remaining close to their homes and families. Cars occupied the land, and there was little reason for anyone to gather there. We wanted to change that.
Manmade designed and constructed the landscape, while Maha Alessa cultivated and cared for the planting, gradually transforming the once-barren site into a dense and productive garden.
Today, the garden is alive. Children can play outdoors close to their families, neighbors have a green space on their doorstep, and plants flourish where cars once parked. The garden isn’t purely ornamental either: edible fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown alongside the landscape, making it productive as well as beautiful.
For Manmade Studio, the project represents architecture at its most fundamental: improving the everyday environment in which people live.
Sometimes transforming a neighborhood doesn’t require another building. Sometimes it means giving the land back to people, children and nature.
